Handel's Messiah:
The Promise and Fulfillment of Redemption
(Scriptural and Visual Excerpts)

Editor's Note: George Frederic Handel's Messiah, composed in 1741, is an oratorio based on selected Scriptural passages for its text, to celebrate God's redemption in Christ of fallen mankind. The links in this section convey the basic principles of God's redemptive plan, and the Word of God to the Israelites, fulfilled in the life and death of the prophesied savior. The passages are presented in the same order as presented in Handel's work. Linked video performances represent various productions of The Messiah, not a single performance. The version of scripture passages cited can be found in this linked resource (2024).
