Righteousness by Faith

Martin Luther

These are the most important points of our doctrine: that we say that righteousness comes through faith alone and that we reprove and refute the idolatry of the pope. From this it follows directly that the papists themselves do not understand what they prate about faith and works. And this fact above all is to be reprehended: that they teach doubt and rob righteousness of its proper substance and character, which is confidence.
